Javelinas Slipped Past Mustangs

Silver City, NM- The Western New Mexico Women's basketball team returned to Drags Court this Thursday evening as they welcomed Texas A&M Kingsville. The Javelinas would come out on top with a final score of 51-45.
 
Brooke Rodgers (Phoenix, Arizona/Cactus Shadows High School) would lead the Mustangs for the night with 12 points. Diamond Moore (Colorado Springs, CO/Harrison High School) would also be in the double digits with ten points followed by seven rebounds.
 
In the first half the Mustangs would go 7-of-23 (30.4%). Turnovers were a crucial factor into Kingsville keeping a steady lead. Mustangs would have 13 turnovers to end the half. Halftime score of 19-27. WNMU would out rebound the Javelinas in the first half 18-14.
 
Sydney Wright (Houston, Texas/Henley High School) and Alina Simon (Killeen, TX/Ellison High School) would make crucial back-to-back threes to start off the third quarter. The Mustangs would go to shoot 8-for-17 (47.1%) and 3-for-9 (33.3%) from the three-point line. This would give WNMU the lead going into the fourth quarter 39-36.
 
The fourth quarter would be a close game all the way till the buzzer. Georgia Ohiaeri would hit a game sealing three with 29 seconds left to give the Javelinas the win.
 
WNMU would shoot 18-of-54 (33.3%) from the field, 3-of-12 (25%) from the three, and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. The Mustangs would also end the night with 36 rebounds, 12 assists, 17 turnovers, and seven steals.
 
Georgia Ohiaeri would be the lead scorer for the Javelinas with 14. Mia Rivers (9).

The Mustangs will be back on Drags Court, Saturday 21st at 1:00 to face Texas A&M International.
