Silver City, N.M. - The Western New Mexico University volleyball team hosted Dallas Baptist University on Sep. 30th, 2022 at Drag's Court. The Patriots would make quick work of the Mustangs and defeat them in three sets.
Junior
Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS) would be at the helm of the Mustangs attack, recording eight kills. Senior
Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) would lead the Mustangs in assists with eight. Freshman
Peyton Castillo (Las Vegas, NV/Sierra Vista HS) would finish one assists behind Culp with seven.
Sophomore
Vianey Lopez Marrufo (El Paso, TX/Del Valle HS) would produce two impressive aces. As for the defense, sophomore
Janey Cortez (El Paso, TX/East Lake HS) would lead the way with eight digs on the night.
In set one the Patriots would storm out to 10-2 advantage on the Mustangs. The Mustangs would not be able to recover and would drop the set 25-10. Patriots 1, Mustangs 0.
The Mustangs would come out much more aggressive in set two, trailing closely 20-18 towards the end. That would not be enough as the Patriots would win set two 25-22. Patriots 2, Mustangs 0.
Set three the Patriots would come out storming yet again with a commanding 10-4 lead. The Patriots would never look back, winning set three 25-8, thus taking the match 3-0.
The Mustangs will be back in action on at Drag's Court on Saturday Oct. 1st against The University of Tyler at Texas (12:00PM MT).
