SILVER CITY, N.M. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the 2021-22 Easton NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete award winners. 12 players from the Western New Mexico University softball team have been named NFCA Scholar All-Americans to cap off their year.
To qualify for this award, you must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. As a team for the year, the Mustangs earned a 3.58 GPA. Seniors Janae Ruiz (Kearny, AZ/ Ray High School), Julia Vega (Tucson, AZ/University HS), Marina Garcia (Tucson, AZ/Desert View HS), juniors Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School), Cecilia Jurado, sophomore Vanessa Hunt (Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe High School), and first-year Andi Uemura (Kona, Hawai'i/Konawaena High School), Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School), Kaylee Hickman (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School ), Laryssa Morales (Vail, AZ/Cienega High School), Patricia Gallardo, and Samantha Gonzales (Miami, AZ/Miami High School) all earned Scholar All-American honors.
"We are extremely proud of the way our student athletes handled their education plans," said Head Coach Ashley Hickman. "They worked hard from day one to achieve a GPA over 3.5 this year. We know this sets a high standard for them and they are motivated to continue to hold that for our team."
