Odessa, TX – The Western New Mexico University Men's and Women's tennis teams played against UT Permian Basin on Frida. The Mustang men won 4-3 and the women fell 7-0.
"We took care of business in No. 2 doubles, getting a win," said Head Coach Alex Hunt.
In doubles, the Mustangs would win one match. No. 2 doubles duo Kajsa Gedlitschka (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley HS) and Livia Leite (Cunha-SP, Brazil/Bernardino Querido,) won 6-1. The Mustangs No.1 team Julia Terrazas (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Saint George HS) and Massiel Paredes (Lima, Peru/Pamer HS) fell 6-3. The Mustangs No. 3 team of Nicold Gonzalez (Bogota, Colombia) and Caini Wang (Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) also
lost 6-2.
"in singles, Livia and Nicold played some really good tennis as it was really close. We are continuing to get better and I am excited for the future," said Hunt.
In singles, Leite split sets after winning the first set 6-3. Her opponent would win the next two sets 6-2, 6-3. Gonzalez also split sets, bouncing back from a 6-0 loss, winning set two 6-4, and then would fall 6-0.
Caini Wang (Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) battled her opponent before falling 7-5, 6-1. Playing in the No. 2 position, Gedlitschka fell in a hard fought match 7-5, 6-3. Terrazas had a tough match as she fell 6-1, 6-0. Paredes played a close match but she would be edged out 6-4, 6-2.
The Mustangs will go to Angelo State on Saturday, continuing their three day road trip.
