Mustangs Head Back to Silver City After A Tough Match-Up Against OCU

Oklahoma City, OK -  The Western New Mexico University Softball team geared up to compete in a doubleheader against Oklahoma Christian University. In a close game one, the Mustangs were defeated 1-3 and in game two lost 0-13. 

Game One:

Right off the bat in the first inning, Mustang veteran Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) sends a solo homerun over the fence to give the Mustangs the lead 1-0. At the end of the first inning, the Eagles tied the game 1-1. 

The Eagles and Mustangs both struggled to add more runs onto the board for the next three innings (Innings 2-5). 

In the sixth inning, the Eagles were able to send another homerun over the fence earning two more-runs and ending the game in a 3-1 win over the Mustangs. 

Pitcher Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) got the start. She went 6.0 IP, 6 H, (3 ER), 1 BB. She is now 3-14 for the season. 

The Eagles started Lindsey Stoeckel 7.0 IP, 3 H, (1 ER). She is now 8-0 on the season. 

Aggies notable hitters:

Aaliyah Brown: 2-for-3

Kylie Janzen: 2-for-3; 2 RBI
 

Mustangs Notable hitters:

Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School): 1-for-3, 1 HR

Samantha Gonzalez: 1-for-1 

Game Two:

The Eagles took their momentum and energy from the first game right into the beginning of game two. OCU scored in the first inning ending the inning leading the Mustangs 1-0. 

By the second inning, the Eagles earned three more runs, off of a single, double, and sacrifice fly. 

Mustangs were unable to get the bat going throughout the game.

In the fourth inning, the Eagles added seven more runs to their score giving them a 13-0 lead.

WNMU fought hard but was unable to get a hit. 

In a no-hitter, the Eagles took the win 13-0, earning 11 hits out of 20 at bats. 

Julia Vega (Tucson, AZ/University HS) was the starting pitcher going 0-11 for the season. She went 2.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, (4 ER). Vanessa Hunt (Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe High School) came out to pitch for 2 innings and went 7 H, 9 R, (9 ER), 2 BB, 

OCU's starting pitcher, Grace Anderson is 11-2 on the season. She went 5 IP, 0 ER, 0 H,  0 BB. 

Eagles notable hitters:

Brooklin Bain: 2-for-2; 2 R, 1 RBI

Aaliyah Brown: 2-for-3; 3 RBI

Tristyn Hamilton: 3-for-3; 1 R, 2 RBI
 

The Mustangs will head back home for their Senior Game and Alumi Day weekend on April 22nd and 24th against Eastern New Mexico University and West Texas A&M University.
