Mustangs Drop a Pair Against Javelinas

Kingsville, TX - Sunday afternoon, Western New Mexico University Softball played Texas A&M-Kingsville before falling 12-0 and 14-0. 

Game One:

The Javelinas got off to an early start scoring three runs on two hits in the first 1st inning. They would continue their momentum in the 2nd inning scoring three more runs off a three-run homerun.

In the 4th inning, the Javelinas capitalized on Mustang errors. TAMUK scored 6 runs as the Mustangs had three errors in the inning. 

The Javelinas started with Beth Montes who is now (10-2) on the year. She would pitch 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 8 K, and 1 BB. Saidi Castillo came into pitch in the 5th inning, going 1.0 IP, 1 H, and 2 K.

The Mustangs started Vanessa Hunt (Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe High School). She pitched 2.0 IP, 6 H,  6 ER, 2 K and 3 BB. Julia Vega (Tucson, AZ/University HS) came in the 3rd inning, going 1.1 IP, 1 H, 6 R (2 ER), 1 K, 4 BB and 1 HBP. Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) would pitch 0.2 IP and 1 K. 

TAMUK had 7 total hits with two extra-base hits. The Javelinas walked seven times and had one hit-by-pitch.

Jory Cervantes: 2-for-3, 3 R, 1 BB

Game Two:

The Mustangs were down early in the 1st inning, as the Javelinas put up 9 runs. TAMUK had seven hits in the inning, four of which were doubles.

TAMUK extended their lead in the 2nd inning off a double and a triple, bringing in three more Javelina runners.

In the 4th inning, TAMUK had three hits, bringin in two more runners. TAMUK ended game two with 14 hits, six doubles and two triples.

Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) got the start for WNMU. She pitched 1.0 IP, 7 H, 9 ER, and 3 BB. Julia Vega (Tucson, AZ/University HS) would come in to finish the game. She pitched 3.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R (2 ER), 1 K, and 1 BB.

TAMUk's starting pitcher, Carissa De Los Santos is now (6-0). She pitched 5.0 IP, 2 H, and 6 K.

Breanna Carr: 2-for-2; 2 3B, 1 R, 3 RBI

Kayla Gonzales: 2-for-3, 2 2B, 1 R, 2 RBI

The Mustangs will be back home on Friday, April 1st playing St. Edwards at 12:00pm and 2:00pm MST and on Sunday, April 3rd, at 11:00am and 1:00pm MST.
