Box Score Silver City, NM – The Western New Mexico University Men's and Women's tennis teams competed against Dallas Baptist. The women were defeated 6-1 and the men won 5-2.Â
Women's Match
"We played very well against a very good DBU team," said Head Coach Alex Hunt. "WE pushed and didn't roll over."Â
In doubles, the Mustangs lost the doubles point. The Mustangs No.1 team Julia Terrazas (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Saint George HS) and Massiel Paredes (Lima, Peru/Pamer HS) fell 6-2. No. 2 doubles duo Kajsa Gedlitschka (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley HS) and Livia Leite (Cunha-SP, Brazil/Bernardino Querido,) showed great fight before losing 6-2. The Mustangs No.3 team Nicold Gonzalez (Bogota, Colombia) and Caini Wang (Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) played a great match before being defeated 6-4.
"Massiel had a great day and played very well. I am proud of the way she carried herself," said Hunt.
In singles, Paredes split sets losing the first set 6-2, winning the second set 7-6(5), and closed it out winning 10-4. Continuing her great play, Caini Wang (Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) split sets, winning the first set 6-2 but lost the next two 6-4 and 10-6.
Playing in the No. 2 position, Gedlitschka fell 6-2 and 6-3. Terrazas played well but would lose 6-1,7-5. Leite played well at No. 1 opponent as she would fall 6-2, 6-3. Showing a good fight after a first set 6-0 loss, Gonzalez would lose the second set 6-2.
The Mustangs will go to UT Tyler and Letourneau University on Friday April 1st!
