Laredo, TX - The Western New Mexico University Softball team geared up to play against the Texas A&M International University Dustdevils, Saturday afternoon, March 26th at Dusdevils Softball Field. After playing the team Friday, March 25th, in a double header, the Mustangs fell today 1-9 ending the game in five innings. 

A slow offensive day for the Mustangs would hurt the team greatly. Left fielder Cecy Juardo and Pitcher Julia Vega (Tucson, AZ/University HS) had the only team hits on the day. 

In the third inning, the Dusdevils gained a two-run homerun that awakened their offense. By the end of the third, TAMIU lead 8-0. 

In the fifth inning, Julia Vega (Tucson, AZ/University HS) hit a solo homerun giving the Mustang their first point on the board. 

The Dustdevils started with pitcher Victoria Gonzalez who pitched all five innings and only allowed three hits. Gonzalez is now (1-6) on the season after earning the victory win today. 

The Mustangs started pitcher Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) as she pitched 2.2 innings, allowed 6 hits, 6 runs, and faced 14 at-bats. Julia Vega (Tucson, AZ/University HS) took over for the Mustangs for 1.1 innings, allowed 5 hits, 3 runs, and faced 9 at-bats.

Alex Hernandez: 2-for-2, 1 2B

Victoria Maldonado: 1-for-2, 1 2B, 1 SH

Christian Garcia: 1-for-2, 1 2B

Mustangs Notable Players:

The Mustangs will face Texas A&M University - Kingsville for a doubleheader, Sunday, March 27th, at 11:00 am & 1:00 pm MT.
