Despite Putting up a Tough Fight, #21 Midwestern State Defeats The WNMU Mustangs

Silver City, NM – The Western New Mexico University Women's tennis team geared up to play against the #25 Midwestern State Women's Tennis team at Mustang Courts, Friday afternoon. In a tough loss, WNMU lost the battle 0-7. 

"We fought really, really hard, and we had lots of really close matches. We are a super young team and with that being said, our ability to push a team like that one with that caliber is really exciting," said Head Coach Alex Hunt

In doubles, the Mustangs we unable to get the win as MSU took the point after winning each set, (6-0, 6-2, 6-1).

In singles, MSU went undefeated in all six matches. Singles Number One, Livia Leite (Cunha-SP, Brazil/Bernardino Querido,) was unable to get going dropping both sets, (0-6, 6-1 [1]). Number Two singles was an exciting match as Kajsa Gedlitschka (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley HS) had great moments but fell (3-6, 4-6 [2]). Singles matches Three and Five were tough losses for WNMU (2-6,2-6 [3]) & (0-6, 2-6 [5]). Caini Wang (Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) played very well and a quite even match up for the singles match Number Four although dropping the sets (5-7, 2-6 [4]). Massiel Paredes (Lima, Peru/Pamer HS) came close in set one (4-6), but came up short in the second set (1-6) to give singles match Number Six to MSU. 

"I am very proud of the ladies despite some of the scorelines and I made sure to let them know that they did a great job," concluded Coach Hunt. 

The Mustangs will be back on their home court tomorrow, Saturday, March 26th against Dallas Baptist at 1:00 PM MT.
