Box Score 2 Denver, CO – Continuing their road trip, the Western New Mexico University Men's and Women's tennis teams played two matches on Monday. The Mustangs started out playing Metro State of Denver and concluded playing against Seward County Community College. The women battled through a tough 7-0 loss against MSU-Denver and Seward County Community College.
"We played a very good MSU-Denver and Seward County team. We played some of the best matches all season, but we learned a lot and can take some things and implement them into our game for the rest of the year" said Assistant Coach Griffin Weinkam.
Match vs MSU-Denver:
In doubles, the Mustangs lost the doubles point. The Mustangs No.1 team Julia Terrazas (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Saint George HS) and Massiel Paredes (Lima, Peru/Pamer HS) fell 6-0. No. 2 doubles duo Kajsa Gedlitschka (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley HS) and Livia Leite (Cunha-SP, Brazil/Bernardino Querido,) showed great fight before losing 6-2. The Mustangs No.3 team Nicold Gonzalez (Bogota, Colombia) and Caini Wang (Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) had a tough match as they were defeated 6-1.
In singles, playing in the No. 2 position, Gedlitschka was down early with a 6-1 loss but fought back before losing 7-5. Paredes split sets losing the first set 6-4, winning the second set 6-2, but fell 10-7. Continuing her great play from the day before, Wang lost 7-5, 6-2.
Gonzalez played well but would lose 6-4, 6-2. Leite played a good No. 1 opponent as she would fall 6-2, 6-0. Showing a good fight after a first set 6-0 loss, Terrazas would lose the second set 6-2.
Match vs Seward County Community College:
"The women competed and played fearless against #5Â Seward County Community College" said Weinkam. "This weekend has showed the growth of this team."

In singles, Gonzalez was just beaten out 7-6(4), 7-6(2). Gedlitschka lost in consecutive sets 6-3, 6-3. Andreea Arnautu (Laval, Quebec, Canada/College Laval) would fall 6-2, 6-2. Terrazas had great effort but found herself losing 6-2, 6-3. Playing a very good opponent, Wang was downed 6-2, 6-1. Leite played a very good ranked opponent, falling 6-0, 6-0.
The Mustangs will be back on their home courts March 25th against Midwestern State at 12:00pm and Saturday, March 26th, at 1:00pm against Dallas Baptist.
