Lee Reaches Season Best In Points Scored Against West Texas

Silver City, NM - The Western New Mexico University Mustangs played at Drag's Court to play against the West Texas A&M University Buffaloes, Thursday evening. In a tough loss, the Buffaloes would come out on top to defeat the Mustangs at their home court. 

Myla Lee (Glendale, AZ/Cactus HS) would lead the Mustangs with a personal best of most points scored in a game with 16 points on the night and 2 rebounds. Olivia Lee (Peoria, AZ/Cactus HS) would follow with 10 points and lead the team with 14 rebounds which helped the team gain more shooting opportunities. Alina Simon (Killeen, TX/Ellison High School) also tied with Olivia Lee (Peoria, AZ/Cactus HS) ending the night with 10 points and 3 rebounds playing aggressive to help close the gap in the scores.

The Mustangs struggled to find a strong offensive game in the first portion of the game. Sophomore, Cynaye Bobbitt (Killeen, TX/Harker Heights HS) really stepped up to the plate for her team by creating strong offensvie plays to help the Mustangs gain momentum. Bobbit would end with 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist on the night.  

WNMU shot 39% from the field goal range and 14.3% from the three-point line. Turnovers would cost the Mustangs the game as the team totaled 17 turnovers while West Texas only had 5 turnovers. 

Mustangs will look to defeat the Cameron University Aggies, Saturday February 19th at 2:00pm MT. This will be the final home game of the 2022 season as well as Senior Day where the seniors who will be leaving the team will be honored!
