Despite Double-Double From Lee Mustangs Fall to the Aggies

Silver City, NM - The Western New Mexico University Mustangs geared up to play on Drag's Court versus the Cameron University Aggies. In high momentum game, the Aggies would come out on top with a 80-65 win. 

Sophomore Olivia Lee (Peoria, AZ/Cactus HS) lead Mustangs with a double-double on the night totaling 14 points on the evening, shooting 50% from the field goal range and 50% from the free-throw line. She would go on to total 11 rebounds 5 of which were offensive and 6 defensive as well as 1 steal. Senior Destiney Johnson (El Paso, TX/Parkland HS) did not hold back on on her senior night game scoring 9 points for the afternoon and also shooting 50% from the field goal and free throw range. Johnson had 6 rebounds on the night 4 of which were defensive giving the Mustangs more opportunities to do something with the ball. Sophomore Alina Simon (Killeen, TX/Ellison High School) also scored 9 points with 3 rebounds and 2 assists to help the Mustangs add more points to the board.

Senior Cassandra Vickery (Tularosa, NM/Tularosa HS) showed great effort leading the team in assists with 5 and earning 6 points for the afternoon shooting 60% from the field goal range. Although sophomore Charlize Bustillos (El Paso, TX/Riverside HS) did not put a number on the board, her work was shown through setting up her teammates with great offensive plays as had 4 assists on the night. 

WNMU had a difficult time with shooting beyond the arc with an average of 17.6%. Forced turnovers were costly to the Mustangs as the team total was a high 20 turnovers giving Aggies 30 points based on the turnovers. Mustangs bench would account for 47% of the total team points making up for 28 points. 

Mustangs will back back in action in their final home game of the season against Texas A&M International University with 5:00 pm tip-off on February 21st. 

Cameron Aggies were lead by Maighan Hedge (19 points, 5 rebounds. 2 ast, 3 stl), Stephanie Peterson (12 points, 6 rebounds, 7 ast, 5 stls, 1 blck), & Katie King (12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 ast, 2 stl)
