Dallas, Texas - Western New Mexico University's Men's Basketball team lost a heart-breaker in the Burg Center, as Dallas Baptist University won 68-67.
With 1:06 left on the clock, the Mustangs were up 67-64. DBU would then take the lead 68-67 with :05 left on the clock, giving the Mustangs a chance to win it as time was running down, but just came short.
Two Mustangs scored in double figures, Jordan Doss (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Hope Academy) with 18pts and Malik Johnson (Wytheville, Virginia/George Wythe High School) had 15pts. Both Doss and Johnson were the Mustangs leading rebounders. Doss had nine boards and Johnson had seven.
With 4:27 left in the first half WNMU began to break away from the Patriots, as they would go into the half leading 43-30.
In the first half the Mustangs shot 51.7% (15-29), 54.5% from three (6-11), and 77.8% (7-9) at the free throw line. M. Johnson had 10pts and was (2-3) from three.
In the second half, the Mustangs offense slowed a bit, only scoring 24 points. The Mustangs ended up shooting 44.2% (23-52), 52.6% from three (10-19), and 61.8% (11-18) from the free throw line.
The Mustangs rebounded the ball well, having 34 to the Patriots 29. WNMU had five offensive rebounds and converted 10 second chance points. DBU had five as well and converted eight second chance points.
WNMU turned the ball over 17 times compared to DBU's 14. The Patriots would go on to score 15pts off of WNMU turnovers. DBU got into foul trouble, having 22 and three players had four fouls. WNMU didn't have their best at the free throw line, making 11 of 18.
