Greyhounds Round Up Mustangs

CLOVIS, NM - The Western New Mexico University Volleyball team traveled to Clovis High School hoping to spoil Eastern New Mexico University's Senior Night. After taking set one on the Greyhounds, the Mustangs would go on to lose three straight sets.

Senior Bria Augustine (Bellflower, CA/Mayfair High School) was the offensive force for the Mustangs tonight, finishing with 12 kills. Fellow senior Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) was once again the Mustang's assist leader on the night with 21 assists. Freshman Peyton Castillo (Las Vegas, NV/Sierra Vista HS) record an impressive .750% hitting percentage, leading both teams.

On defense Zoe Chatterton and Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS) put an impressive wall at the net. Chatterton recorded five block, while Walker had four. Walker was also a force on the backline recording a game-high 17 digs. 

In set one the Mustangs and Greyhounds would be locked up in a tight battle. Tied at 12, the Mustangs would rally off four straight points. That rally would prove to be enought has the Mustangs would win set one 25-19.

Mustangs 1, Greyhounds 0.

Set the Greyhounds scored a quick seven point before a Mustang timeout. The Mustangs would be unable to close deficit at all, losing set two 25-17.

Mustangs 1, Greyhounds 1.

The Mustangs would start off set three much better, trading points with the Greyhounds. However, tied at 11, the Greyhounds would score 14 of the next 17 points to take set three 25-14.

Greyhounds 2, Mustangs 1.

In set four the Mustangs started off playing catchup to the Greyhounds. After tying up the match at 16, the Mustangs would scamper out to a 22-18 advantage. That would not be enough though, as the Greyhounds would score the next seven points to capture the set 25-22.

Greyhounds 3, Mustangs 1.

The Mustangs will be back in action for their final game of the season on Nov. 5th at Lubbock Christian University (12:00 PM MT).
