LUBBOCK, TX - The Western New Mexico University Volleyball team traveled to Lubbock Christian in hopes to end the season on a high note. After taking set one on the Chaparrals, the Mustangs would go on to lose the next three straight sets.
Junior Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS) was the offensive leader for the Mustangs tonight, finishing with 10 kills. Bria Augustine (Bellflower, CA/Mayfair High School) was right behind with eight kills. Senior Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) was led the Mustang's in assists with 16 assists. Freshman Peyton Castillo (Las Vegas, NV/Sierra Vista HS) recorded 12 assists as well.
On defense, Naomi Kimble (Animas, NM/Animas HS) had an impressive six block assists. Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS) and Janey Cortez (El Paso, TX/East Lake HS) both recorded 11 digs.
In set one the Mustangs and Lady Chaps would have a tight contest. The Mustangs had three separate three point runs, helping take the first set. That rally would prove to be enough as the Mustangs would win set one 25-23.
Mustangs 1, Chaparrals 0.
Set two, the Chaps had three separate five point runs. It would be too much as the Mustangs fell 25-12.
Mustangs 1, Chaparrals 1.
LCU continued their momentum and did not let up. The Chaps would hold the Mustangs to just 10 points, as they went on to 25-10.Â
Chaparrals 2, Mustangs 1.
In set four, the Mustangs started off playing catchup to the Chaparrals. The Mustangs would surge back to 20-16 advantage LCU. That would not be enough though, as the Chaps would not let up to capture the set 25-19.
Chaparrals 3, Mustangs 1.
