SILVER CITY, N.M. – Thursday morning from the Lone Star Conference announced their annual postseason football awards with fifteen members of the Western New Mexico Football Team being recognized for their efforts this season.
Jack Rasmussen (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville HS) was named to the LSC First Team, the only Mustang to do so. Devin Larsen (Gilbert, AZ/Queen Creek HS), Jamon Chambers (Tacoma, WA/Stadium HS), David Telles (Los Angeles, CA/Franklin HS) (Wide Receiver), David Telles (Los Angeles, CA/Franklin HS) (Return Specialist), Kaleb Gutierrez (El Paso, TX/Franklin HS), Tylen Coleman (Maricopa, AZ/Maricopa HS), and Sam Moala (Reno, NV/Hug HS) earned Second Team. The Mustangs also had seven members on the Honorable Mention list: Kiu Teu (Hayward, CA/Menlo-Atherton HS), Charles Byers (Towson, MD/Concordia Prep), Jordan Davis (), Quentron Gallow (Crowley, LA/Crowley HS), Kenny White (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland HS), Adrian Zamudio (New Waverly, TX/New Waverly HS), And Brayden Starmer (Mesa, AZ/Desert Ridge HS).
"Proud of this team and what they have accomplished this season," said Head Coach Philip Vigil. "We spoke all year about breaking chains and this group did exactly that. It is the first winning season in almost 30 years and a 6-4 DII record."
Two Mustangs were also honored for their hard work in the classroom with Devin Larsen (Gilbert, AZ/Queen Creek HS) and Allen Ortiz (Lakewood, CO/Green Mountain HS) both being named to the LSC All-Academic Team.

Offensive Back of the Year: Nate Omayebu III, Angelo State
Receiver of the Year: MJ Link, UT Permian Basin
Offensive Lineman of the Year: Jake Long, Angelo State
Offensive Freshman of the Year: Devin Cross, Midwestern State
Defensive Player of the Year (J.V. Sikes award): Jaylin Parnell, Western Oregon
Defensive Lineman of the Year: Weston Bauer, Angelo State
Linebacker of the Year: Jaylin Parnell, Western Oregon
Defensive Back of the Year: Andrew Pitts, Angelo State
Defensive Freshman of the Year: Victor Idusuyi, UT Permian Basin
Newcomer of the Year: Asa Wondeh, Eastern New Mexico
Academic Player of the Year: Hunter St. John, Eastern New Mexico.
Coach of the Year: Jeff Girsch, Angelo State
"I'm happy for the players that were recognized as All Conference by the other LSC coaches," said Vigil. "It just goes to show how many coaches in this league know we have some great student athletes at this university. This is only the beginning here."
