Austin, Tex. - The Western New Mexico University volleyball was in action Saturday Oct. 8th at St. Edward's University. The Hilltoppers would top the Mustangs in three straight sets.

The offense was placed in the hands of junior Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS), as she finihsed with 16 kills. Freshman Peyton Castillo (Las Vegas, NV/Sierra Vista HS) was a big part of Walker's success as she finished with 14 assists.

Senior Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) would lead the Mustang defense tonight with 17 digs.

In set one, the Hilltoppers would jump out to an early 14-5 lead on the Mustangs. The would prove to be enough as the Mustangs would drop set on 25-13.

Hilltoppers 1, Mustangs 0.

Set two the Mustangs would be the ones jumping out to an early 12-9 lead. The Hilltoppers would gather themselves and win the set 25-20.

Hilltopppers 2, Mustangs 0.

The Hilltoppers would be the first to take the lead in set three, 11-7. The Mustangs would be able to make up ground, but it would not be enough, as they would lose set three 25-20.

Hilltopppers 3, Mustangs 0.

The Mustangs will be back in action on Oct. 21st at D.L. Ligon Coliseum against Midwestern State University (5:00 PM MT).
