Volleyball Wins Senior Night Thriller

SILVER CITY, N.M. - Saturday Night, at Drag's Court, it was Senior Day for Western New Mexico University's volleyball team. The Mustangs would win their final home game of the season 3-2 over Cameron University. 

In her final home game of the season, Bria Augustine (Bellflower, CA/Mayfair High School) lead the high-flying Mustang offense with 14 kills. Senior Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) was all over the floor, finding her hitter consistently. Culp set a season-high 32 assists. Freshman Peyton Castillo (Las Vegas, NV/Sierra Vista HS) was not far behind Culp in the assist category, as she finished with 23 assists.

Eliana Moultrie (El Paso, TX/Canutillo HS) was really "diggin" the ball tonight, as she finished with 20 digs. Augustine recorded 19 digs of her own.

In set one the Mustangs would take a 5-4 lead and never look back. The Mustangs would take set one 25-18.

Mustangs 1, Aggies 0.

The Aggies and Mustangs would play a close second set with the score being tied 8-8. The Mustangs would let the Aggies open up a six point lead and that would be too much to overcome. The Aggies would take set two 25-21.

Mustangs 1, Aggies 1.

Set three began the Mustangs open up to a 17-10 lead on the Aggies. That lead would prove to be insurmountable as the Mustangs would take set three 25-22.

Mustangs 2, Aggies 1.

In set four the Mustangs would come out storming to a 16-11 lead on the Aggies. However, the Aggies would regroup to take set four 25-22 and force a set five.

Mustangs 2, Aggies 2.

The Aggies would quickly jump out to a 7-3 lead on the Mustangs in set five. The Mustangs would regroup at tie the game up at 10. Then with the game on the line senior Bria Augustine (Bellflower, CA/Mayfair High School) rose up and sent a missle into the floor, winning set five 15-10.

Mustangs 3, Aggies 2.

WNMU Athletics would like to thank the seniors for the diligent work and making WNMU  a priority to them. From all of us at WNMU, we wish the seniors nothing but the best in their future endeavors.

The Mustangs will be in action next on the against Eastern New Mexico University (6:00 PM MT) on Friday Novermber 4th.
