Cameron Leaves Mustangs Without a Victory

Box Score

Silver City, NM – Saturday concluded the regular season for the Western New Mexico University tennis teams. Matching up against Cameron University, the Aggies who are battling for the top seed in the conference defeated the Mustang men 7-0 and the women 6-1.

In doubles, the #1 duos team, Jonathon Vega and Joaquin Delpino, and the #3 duo team, Erik Dallman and Rodrigo Mere, were just outplayed, losing their matches 6-4.

The Mustang men didn't have their best stuff and faced off against a team that is top-ranked in the conference resulted in low scores. Vega and Mere played well in singles, despite both scorecards having them defeated at 6-2 and 6-3.

Delpino played a tough match, pushing it into three sets. Macon Dias from Cameron defeated Delpino in set one 6-3, but Delpino didn't back down winning the second set 7-6(5). Dias would continue to play well, winning the set 6-4, securing the match.

The women had a point with Julia Tozzi's (Limeira, Brazil/) great play. Tozzi was the only Mustang to be undefeated on the day.

In doubles, Tozzi and partner, Camila Gomez (Bogota, Colombia), looked stellar, winning the match 6-4. In #2 duos, Julia Terrazas (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) and Massiel Paredes (Lima, Peru/Pamer HS) just missed securing the doubles point, las the Aggies defeated them 7-6(4). Kasja Gedlitschka and Nicold Gonzalez (Bogota, Colombia) played well, just being nudged out 6-4.

Tozzi had an intense match winning the first set 7-6(6). The Aggies, Karolina Glowinska, battled back winning the second set 6-2, but Tozzi pushed the gas in set three, winning 6-3.

Going three sets, Gomez couldn't slam to door for the win after winning the first set 6-4. Cameron's Alex Lopez would win the next two sets 6-2 and a close knit third set, 7-6(5). Paredes had two close sets as well, losing 7-5 and 6-4.

Both Mustang teams have made the conference tournament next week. Times and official dates will be released soon.
