Tennis Falls to BIOLA

SILVER CITY, N.M. – Starting their three-day road trip to California, the Western New Mexico University tennis teams played their first match against BIOLA in La Mirada, CA. The men's team was on the courts first, suffering a 4-0 loss. The women had a similar result, losing 5-0.

Individually, BIOLA swept the day. Rodrigo Mere (Coatepeque, Guatamala/Colegio El Bosque) and Joaquin Delpino (Villa Maria, Argentina) only played a full set each. Mere played well, just being edged out 6-3 and was close knit in his second set, down 3-2 as it became incomplete. Delpino played a tough match as well, facing BIOLA's Sebastian Herrera. Herrera was leading after taking the first set 6-3, and was leading 4-1 before the match was then labeled incomplete.

In doubles, Jace Crawford (Lovington, NM/Lovington HS) and Lazuis Brown went up against Herrera and Erik Martinez, losing 6-2. Mere and Erik Dallman faced off against Andres Meneses and Alex Sedeno, losing 6-3. 

Julia Tozzi (Limeira, Brazil/) took on Colbyshae Emery of BIOLA as they battling it out, before Emery won the match 6-3 and 6-1. Camilia Gomez played a great match but lost a tough set, 6-4 and wasn't able to finish her second set.

Massiel Parades and Nicold Gonzalez (Bogota, Colombia/) went up against Brooke Fager and Lilly McNeill.Parades and Gonzalez battled before being defeated 6-1.

The Mustangs will go up against Concordia (Irvine) Wednesday morning at 10:00am MT and then travel down to San Diego, playing against Point Loma Nazarene at 6:30pm MT.
