A two-year Mustang and leader for the WNMU Softball team, Brittany Santellanes looks to be a critical piece for the Lady Mustangs this season. In the 2020 season, the native of El Paso, TX, sported a .271 batting average, the fifth-highest on the team, collecting 16 hits, with a double and two homeruns. She was also tied for second on the team with 12 RBIs with 1 and crossed the plate 9 times. Defensively, Santellanes accounted for 115 of the team's putouts, and had a .984 fielding percentage, as she served primarily as the Mustangs first baseman. 

 As we look forward to the season in March, Brittany is a player Head Coach Elsa Cocker looks to utilize with her leadership and versatility on the field. "Brittany is the definition of a team player. She is a selfless and humble leader she does everything with a smile on her face. Brittany is very versatile as she has a cannon for an arm, allowing her to be one of our defensive specialists. She is not only a defensive specialist but also a force of reckoning at the plate" said Cocker.

 Majoring in Kinesiology and minoring in Mathematics, Santellanes has aspirations of becoming an athletic trainer after her time at WNMU. When she has some spare time, she likes to go on walks with her dog, go hiking, and go off-roading.

"Brittney's hard work and dedication for Western New Mexico University softball program will leave a lasting imprint in the minds and hearts of her teammates and Coaches" praises Coach Cocker.
