Silver City, NM – WNMU Men's Basketball took on No.9 Lubbock Christian in tough loss. Fans were welcomed at 50% in the Rip Griffin Center, the first time Mustangs played in front fans this season.
Cash Williams (Fresno, CA /Central East HS) led all scorers with 22pts. This is the third time this season he has scored at 22 points or more.
Tony Avalos (Las Cruces, NM/Onate HS) has stepped up as of late, pestering opponents and the stealing the ball. Avalos and
Amarion Cash (Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe HS) led the team with three steals each and the Mustangs had 10 on the night.
"We didn't fight for 40 minutes tonight," said Head Coach
Zane Gibson.
The Mustangs were flat in first half after the Chaps got off to hot start, going 13-3. At the end of the half, the Chaps had 44 points held the Mustangs to just 24 points, the second lowest this season.

Both teams shot the ball exceptionally well tonight. The Mustangs shot 50% from the field, 62% beyond the arc, and 82% at the free throw line. LCU shot slightly better, shooting 58% from the field, 61% beyond the arc, and knocked down 70% of their free throws.
 "LCU played really well tonight. They shot the ball great" said Gibson.
Coming out in the second half, the Mustangs played with energy. Olamide Pederson scored a season high 11pts and nabbed seven rebounds. The offense began to click and cut the 20-point deficit to 10 points due Williams and Avalos sinking three consecutive three balls. The Mustangs were 6-9 for three pointers in the second half.
"We will watch film to see if we can improve on, but with such a quick turnaround to tomorrows game, we will focus on the drive, want, and desire more than game plans.I am looking forward to seeing if my team will rally tonight and come back and give a better effort tomorrow:" said Gibson
The Mustangs will be back in action tomorrow night at 7:30 pm CT, playing game two against LCU.
