Silver City, NM - Western New Mexico University's Head Softball Coach, Ashley Hickman has announced eight girls for the Fall Class of 2022. 

"We are thrilled to be able to add the 2022 class to our roster. We are thankful for their families that have entrusted us to help their daughters grow in this next chapter," said Head Coach Ashley Hickman. "The fun is just getting started for these new Mustangs!"

Adlai Alvidrez comes to the Mustangs from Americas HS, in El Paso, TX. Alvidrez is a stellar outfielder with a lot of high-level experience and a winning program that made it to the regional quarterfinals just a year ago. She is a hard-worker that is versatile on the left side and is bringing a coachable mindset. The sky's the limit for her!

Coming from Red Mountain HS in Mesa, AZ, Nichole Armijo joins the Mustang Family. Armijo is a middle infielder and outfielder who plays with a ton of passion and determination. She has a strong arm that can work in the middle or even in the outfield. Her experience of being a state-runner up will help bring a competitive edge. She has a fun personality that will be a great addition to our program as she grows on the field! 

Native of Tempe, AZ, and playing her high school ball at McClintock HS, Jordyn Ayala has extremely high potential to be a stellar athlete for the Mustangs. She plays for a top-notch Arizona club team with great talent around her. The corner infielder has a very high softball IQ and is extremely coachable, bringing force and power to her game, making her a tough out and a strong defensive player.  We know that the best is yet to come for Jordyn.  

Making the journey from Folwer, CA, to Silver City, NM, Kamerynn Cordova looks to bring an excellent mound presence to the Mustangs that has made her become highly successful in California. She took Fowler HS to their first state regional championship game this spring and would bring back the trophy. She is a competitor on the mound and will go to battle day in and day out. What is great about Kami is she has already had a taste of winning and success but is still growing her game. She will be a big impact player for the Mustang Mob. 

A corner infielder from Laveen, AZ, Iliana Munoz will look to use her quiet presence on the field all while bringing a huge impact to the lineup. She is versatile on the infield and is consistent in the box. Munoz has played for a great club team in Arizona and has a great foundation with fundamentals. WNMU Softball is looking forward to watching her grow!   

Transferring from Trinidad State University, Ciara Salazar will come back to her native state. Originally  from Tularosa, NM, Salazar will add more depth to our outfield and can help in the middle when needed. Finishing out her spring with Trinidad State University, where they won their region last year, she has great experience playing against some tough Junior College DI talent so far. Salazar swings a great bat from the left side. 

Coming to the Mustangs from Midland Community College, Emily Maddux will help bolster the Mustangs pitching staff. From Douglas, AZ, Maddux will bring great experience and presence to the field. She has faced quality hitters, which in turn will help us in the circle. She will also be coming closer to home which is a win-win for her and Mustang Softball!

The last signee comes from Becker, MN, and will lead the way in the box with her big stick. Makenna Zerwas can be seen as a quieter player at first, but will develop to be a big leader in the box and behind the plate for the Mustangs. At Becker HS, she won the Minnesota State Championship in the spring and was a huge contributor for them. The Mustangs can't wait for everyone to see the true power Makenna brings with her bat. 

"You are going to see a lot of diversity in this class. We are bringing in power hitters, slappers, and true utilities," concluded Hickman. "Not only are they going to contribute to our program, but they will be great additions across our wonderful campus!"
