Silver City, NM – The Western New Mexico University Volleyball team competed in a battle of the Mustangs against Midwestern State University. In the four-set match, WNMU's energy and competitiveness drove them to defeat MSU.

Bria Augustine (Bellflower, CA/Mayfair High School) had yet again another excellent match with 16 kills, 2 aces, and 11 digs. Senior
Maggie Roe (Boulder City, NV/Boulder City High School) played well on the right-side throughout the game as she earned 11 kills and 4 blocks on the night. Freshman
Kayla Villarreal (El Paso, TX/Americas HS) was another offensive asset as she earned 8 kills afternoon.
Veteran
Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) was the WNMU offensive-assist leader this afternoon with 26 assists followed by freshman
Hailey Hertzog (Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral High School) 13 assists.

Kayla Judd (St. David, AZ/St. David HS) put up a strong wall for the Mustangs with a total of 5 blocks against MSU. Middle, Zoe Chatterton ended the match with 2 blocks to help the defense. Dig leader,
Eliana Moultrie (El Paso, TX/Canutillo HS), played scrappy and ready to dig any ball her way as she totaled 14 digs in the four sets.
In set one, WNMU found themselves in a hole down by 6 and were able to come back at the end to close the gap. Unfortunately, they were just short and MSU took set one 25-22. In set two, WNMU entered the court with urgency and energy ending set two 25-17.
Set three was a rally-filled game with each time ensuring the ball did not hit the floor on their side. WNMU had a couple of needed blocks and kills that lead them to win set three 25-21. In the final set, four, WNMU's energy and MSU's determination battled head to head with each team wanting to dictate themselves as the match winner. WNMU played smart in the fourth set, placing the ball well, and using the hands of the MSU's defense to their advantage. In the end, WNMU came out on top and ended the match 26-24.
WNMU Mustangs will be heading to Kingsville, TX to battle against Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Friday, October 22
nd, 1:00 PM MT.
