Conference Play Continues with Texas A&M Commerce, UT Tyler on Drag's Court

SILVER CITY, N.M. – Returning home after a tough road trip, the Mustang men will look to make a second half sprint to finish the season on a high note. Conference play will continue for WNMU this weekend on Drag's Court as they host the Lions of Texas A&M Commerce, Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Patriots of UT Tyler will then make their debut Saturday at 4 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT:
Last weekend opened at Dallas Baptist for the Mustang men, as they found themselves down early. DBU was on their way to a high scoring game, notching 64 of their points in the first half alone. Coming out of the locker rooms, the Mustangs caught a second wind and forced a close contest. Separated by a single point in terms of scoring, the Mustangs fell short in the end 115-78. Andrew Leonard (Tucson, AZ /Cienega ) and Amarion Cash (Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe) each tallied 17 points on the night, leading four Mustangs in double-figures.
Saturday afternoon in Wisdom Gym in what was the last meeting between the Texans of Tarleton and Western New Mexico, for the second time this season free throws would be the deciding factor. TSU finished with 19 more trips to the charity stripe than the Mustangs, in what was a 14 point final score difference. Elijah Holifield (Atlanta, GA/Pace Academy) was on fire scoring 20 points in the first half alone, finishing with a season high 31, shooting 12-of-18 from the field and an impressive 7-of-10 from deep.

TEXAS A&M COMMERCE LIONS (12-5, 8-3 LSC)
Seeking their third straight win, the Lions of Texas A&M Commerce have stolen wins over ranked opponents every time they have faced them this season, but have also underestimated others. Leading the overall series between the two teams 5-1, the Mustangs win came in exciting fashion last season with a narrow 74-73 victory at Commerce.
The Lions sit atop their division after the first round going 5-0 against divisional opponents. Their success comes with being the fourth leading offense in the league, averaging just over 80 points per contest. To go along with the fourth leading team offense, Wayne Stewart ranks fourth in scoring with 20.6 points per game, with over a hundred field goals made so far this season.

UT TYLER PATRIOTS (6-10, 3-8 LSC)
The Patriots will make their Drag's Court debut Saturday afternoon, as well as meet the Mustangs for the first time in program history. A former Division III program, UTT men's basketball has proven to be a worthy opponent in their inaugural season with the LSC. Even though their record shows more loss than wins, the margin of loss is small against top opponents.
Senior, Ty Glover has been a dependable scorer for UTT putting up 16.3 points, with a team high 94 field goals and 23 three-pointers made. Defensively, Glover takes the top spot again averaging 5.1 rebounds to go along with 24 steals, and 17 blocks.
