Dallas, Tex. – The Mustang Men's Basketball team put up a valiant effort in the second half scoring 50 points to the Patriots of Dallas Baptist Thursday night in Dallas. WNMU's offense doubled their output in the second half with 16 field goals, to go along with six three-pointers. However, the first half was a different story as DBU got out to a 64-28 lead at the half, enough to take a 115-78 win.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Amarion Cash (Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe) – 17 PTS | 6-12 FG | 3-3 FT | 5 REB | 2 STL
Andrew Leonard (Tucson, AZ /Cienega ) – 17 PTS | 3-6 3PTR | 6-7 FT | 3 REB | 1 STL
Rodney Simon (Boston, MA/Randolph ) – 12 PTS | 4-6 FT | 5 REB | 1 BLK

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • DBU got things started with back to back steals, leading to two quick scores. Elijah Holifield (Atlanta, GA/Pace Academy) answered back for WNMU with a three for the Mustangs first basket.
  • It would be nearly two minutes without a WNMU score before Malik Sanders (Durham, NC/Smithfield-Selma ) converted for his first basket.
  • A combination of turnovers and efficiency on the DBU side allowed them to create a significant advantage midway through the first half.
  • After a quiet period, Rodney Simon (Boston, MA/Randolph ), with the help of Sanders put two in under the net to get back in the offensive discussion.
  • As the teams traded baskets in the final minutes of the first, Andrew Leonard (Tucson, AZ /Cienega ) capped off the Mustangs scoring with a pair of free throws to put his team at 28.
  • A new team came out of the locker room to start the second half. Sanders pulled down the defensive rebound, then followed up on the opposite end with a three to push WNMU over the thirty point mark.
  • On the verge of fouling out, Amarion Cash (Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe) was fearless to start the second half tallying a steal and the statement dunk for a 9-2 WNMU scoring run in the first two minutes of play.
  • The scoring run would increase to 14-2 before a DBU timeout was called.
  • Under ten minutes left to play, the Mustangs needed a big push to close the gap fighting for every basket and board.
  • DBU surpassed the 100 point mark at the five minute mark.
  • Credit Andrew Leonard (Tucson, AZ /Cienega ) with a series of baskets within the last few minutes to put his team to 78 with the defensive rebound and jumper.
