Mustangs Fall to Azusa Pacific on Day Two

San Marcos, CA – Western New Mexico suffered their second sweep in as many days at the hands of the Cougars from Azusa Pacific. The Mustangs fall to 1-2 on the season, and will look to bounce back Saturday in their final match of the weekend and tournament versus Bentley.

How it Happened:
  • The teams kept it close, before the Mustangs took a two-point advantage at 10-8 on a Cougar attack error.
  • APU capitalized on a WNMU service error to go on a five-point scoring run to take a late lead at 19-17.
  • APU rallied off four more points to take the first set, 25-21.
  • In set two, APU distanced themselves early taking as much as a 10-point lead, before ending the set on a service ace.
  • Behind a .378 hitting percentage as a team, the Cougars dominated set three to earn the sweep over WNMU
 
QUICK HITS:
  • Maggie Roe (Boulder City, NV/Boulder City High School) fell just short of matching her career high of 10 kills in the match with 9 against the Cougars
  • Leon recorded her second highest match in the digs category with 13. She recorded 16 last season vs. Eastern New Mexico
