2018 Recap:
  • Head Coach Frank Tristan signed on with the Mustang Football team in March 2018  
  • Team went 0-10 overall, 0-8 in LSC play.
  • Scored their most points of the season (35) versus MSU – Texas
 
Meet the Mustangs:
  • With a year under his belt, Coach Tristan returns 41 letterwinners, 14 of which are starters.
  • Having had a spring and summer season to recruit, 40 new faces will be suit up this season for the Mustangs.
  • Amongst the returners are 2018 All-Conference Second Team offensive lineman Tytus Timoteo (Honolulu, HI/St. Louis School) and wide receiver Kourde Roberts (North Las Vegas, NV/Legacy).
  • Seniors DeAndre Williams (Tucson, AZ/Tucson Magnet), Roosevelt Calhoun, and James Lee (Bayard, NM/Cobre) will look to make the most of their final season in a WNMU jersey.

  • The Mustangs open the season with one less teammate this weekend after the loss of freshman wide receiver Eddie Cruz (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS). This season is dedicated to #82.
 
The Opponents:
  • In only their second season, the Spirit have proven to a force in the NAIA and the Sooner Athletic Conference going 7-4 in their first season, 5-3 in conference.
  • Saturday marks the Spirit's home opener, after kicking off the season on the road at Doane in Crete, Neb. In 2018, Ottawa defeated Cetys Universidad, 51-19, at Spirit Field to begin the team's inaugural season.
  • Versus Doane the Spirit scored 24 points in the first quarter alone, nearly half of the first 41 points scored in the game.
  • Credit junior quarterback Austin McCullough with 426 of the Spirits offensive yards, completing 37 of 62 with three touchdowns.
  • Junior running back Shamar Moreland had an impressive stat line against Doane, scoring on the ground, through the air, on top of a 94-yard kickoff return. Moreland finished with 183 all-purpose yards and 56 rushing to lead.
  • As a team the Spirit held the Tigers offense to 186 total yards, forcing three turnovers and a interception, forcing their opponent to punt.
