Castillo's Homerun Not Enough To Lift Western In Final Game

Wichita Falls, TX-- A late homerun from Carolyn Castillo (Silver City, NM/Silver City), her fourth of the season, wasn't enough to push her team over as Midwestern swept the series in Friday's game but a score of 2-1. 

Similar to last weekend's finale against Tarleton, Juila Vega found her groove on the mound holding off MSU- Texas up until the fifth inning when back to back doubles scored their two runs of the game. Going the full 6.0 innings, the freshman allowed four hits and only two runs on the day, in addition to three walks and two strikeouts. 

It was truly a battle of the Mustangs on the defensive end. Misty Muniz nabbed her fifth win of the season, striking out 12 and walking only one. 

Castillo's hit was the only one of the day, and saved the team from a no-hitter. 

The team will head back to Silver City to continue play next week against UT- Permian Basin. Friday's double header will kick off at 12 p.m., followed by a single game Saturday at noon.
