Mustangs Low Scoring In Doubleheader Against Lions

Commerce, TX -- In the first two games of the series that were moved up due to weather, the Mustangs fell to the Texas A&M - Commerce Lions. Fierce in the batters box, the Lions combined to score 34 runs total, while holding the Mustangs to just four runs. 

In game one, Western took a 3-1 lead in the second on back-to-back home runs, a solo from Alicia Habitzreuther (Sierra Vista, AZ/Buena) and a two shot by Makayla Guerra (Silver City, N.M/Silver High School). The home team tied it up in the third, before scoring 10 runs in the fourth to take the lead a decisive win in five innings. 

Game two was no different for Commerce taking a quick 4-0 lead in the opening inning, and continuing in every inning to follow including another 10 run inning in the fourth, 

Western's two hits resulted in a single run scored, falling 21-1 in five. 

Julia Vega (Tucson, AZ/University High School) went four innings in game one, before being relieved by Jayln McClain (El Centro, CA). Lyanna Waddell falls to 0-4 on the season, taking the loss in game two. 

Habitzreuther scored the lone run in game two on a wild pitch, while Guerra and Yasmeen Gastelum (Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle) recorded the hits. Four Mustangs recorded hits in game one, including Habitzreuther who was 2-2 that game, 2-3 on the day, 

The team will be back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the final game in the series.
