Softball Falls in Final Road Game

Commerce, TX -- After a tough double-header nearly 24 hours before, the Mustangs went head to head with the Lions of Texas A&M- Commerce to close out the series. 

Similar to game one, the Mustangs found themselves down early after a homerun and a triple from Commerce put them up 2-0 in the first. 

Senior Alexis Gonzalez (Phoenix, AZ/Deer Valley) stepped up to bat, crushing a three-run homer over the left-center wall to put her team up by one after two. 

After scoring five runs in the third and fourth, it was the Lions who took the sweep, defeating Western 15-3. 

In addition to Gonzalez's homer, Ariana Maldonado (Albuquerque, NM/Cibola) and Tycee Coplan (Taylor, AZ/Snowflake) recorded hits. Julia Vega (Tucson, AZ/University High School) fell to 3-7 on the season, allowing nine hits and four walks as the Lions earned 10 of their 15 runs, 

The team will return home for three games against the Cameron Aggies starting with a double-header on Friday at 12 p.m., followed by a single game at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
