Lady Mustangs Fall in Battle of East and West

Portales, NM-- The Western New Mexico Mustangs visited Eastern New Mexico Saturday afternoon looking to bounce back from their loss Thursday.


Early on it looked like they would do just that as they quickly got out to a 11-3 lead over the host Greyhounds. That lead would last for the better part of the first half, but a strong second quarter by Eastern gave them a small lead at halftime, 29-25.


The third quarter was tough for the Mustangs as they managed only eight points in the frame to the Greyhounds 16. That margin would prove too much for the Mustangs to overcome, and they would eventually fall 59-44.


Tatyanna McFarland (Riverside, California/Valley View High School) and Cassandra Vickery (Tularosa, NM/Tularosa) led Western with 13 points apiece.


Western New Mexico returns home next week when they continue Lone Star Conference play against Midwestern St. and Cameron.
