Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Mardis and Kowatch in Double Digits Versus MSU Texas

Silver City, N.M. – Looking to get back into the winner's column, the Western women's basketball team took on the Mustangs of Midwestern State Saturday afternoon. WNMU struggled offensively, shooting a cold 25-percent from the field.

Alicia Mardis (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)10-points | 6 rebounds | 1 block
Kyanne Kowatch (Tularosa, NM/) – 10-points | 2 rebounds | 2 assists | 2 steals
Paulina Rodriguez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Montverde Academy) – 7-points | 6 rebounds | 3 assists | 2 steals  
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both teams were fairly shy to open the game until about the four minute mark when MSU Texas started to run away.
  • WNMU attempted 13 shots from the floor but could only knock down two shots, to trail 16-4 after one.
  • To start the second quarter, Taylor Allison (Little Elm, Texas/Denton High School) would score the first basket at the line.
  • MSU went on to score the next seven points to push past the 20-point mark.
  • Down by 17 with three to play in the half, WNMU put it together on both ends of the ball to get over the 20-point mark going into the locker room but trailed 33-21.
  • After the break, the teams traded baskets but MSU would maintain their double-digit lead going into the final quarter.
  • Both teams fell quiet in the fourth, neither scoring above ten points.
  • WNMU shot 68.4 percent from the foul line, but failed to connect in other areas.
  • As time ran out, MSU created a comfortable lead for a 60-41 win
UP NEXT:
Mustang basketball will hit the road for two games next week, before taking time off for holiday season. Their longest road trip awaits as they travel to the southern part of Texas to take on Texas A&M International in Laredo Thursday, and Texas A&M Kingsville in Kingsville, Texas Saturday.
