Las Vegas, N.M. – After kicking off the regular season over the weekend at the LSC/RMAC Conference Challenge, the Western New Mexico Men's Basketball team remains on the road for a clash with the Cowboys of New Mexico Highlands. The Mustangs midweek matchup is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip-off.

A LOOK BACK:
The Mustangs have had a bit of a tough start to the season, going 0-2 in Durango, including a 102-75 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday. On day one, the Mustangs faced off with host Fort Lewis as the Skyhawks used a strong second half on their way to a 91-78 win.
Elijah Holifield (Atlanta, GA/Pace Academy) led with 24 points, behind 8-14 from the floor, and 5-9 from deep. Three other Mustangs finished in double-digit scoring.
In their first meeting, NMHU led by ten at the half before outscoring WNMU 55-38 in the second half to finish the weekend 2-0.
Rodney Simon (Boston, MA/Randolph ) led offensively with 17-points, while adding seven rebounds, shooting 7-9 from the floor and 3-3 from the foul line.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS COWBOYS (2-0)
Off to a 2-0 start with wins over Eastern New Mexico and Western New Mexico last weekend, the defending Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Champions were projected to finish 4
th in the preseason polls. The championship marks the first for the Cowboys, as they finished the season 22-10, 14-8 in RMAC play.
Head Coach Michael Dominguez takes the reigns after serving the prior two seasons as associate head coach.
Against Eastern New Mexico, returning senior guard Raquan Mitchell posted 33 points, along with two assists, one block, and a steal to boost the team to a 112-108 win over ENMU. Transfer Sammy Barnes-Thompkins added 29-points of his own, four rebounds, five assists, and eight steals. Both Barnes-Thompkins and Mitchell followed up their night one performances combining for 47-points.
SERIES HISTORY:
Dating back to 2009, the Cowboys hold a 15-6 edge in the series. In Albuquerque last season, the Mustangs snapped a four-game losing streak with an 81-75 win. Since then. The Cowboys have won the last two meetings.
