Augustine Records Second Double-Double of the Weekend Against West Texas A&M

Canyon, Tex. – Coming off a four set win against Eastern New Mexico the night prior, the Mustangs looked to carry their momentum against a tough Lady Buffs squad. Despite a strong effort, WNMU fell short in three sets, for a 1-1 record on the weekend.

Bria Augustine (Bell Flower, CA/Mayfair High School) – 16 kills | .333 hitting percentage | 13 digs | 3 service aces
Gabi Lau (Kailua, HI/University Laboratory School) – 16 digs
Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) – 14 assists | 10 digs
Deyzha Samuelu (Garden Grove, CA/Edison High School) – 4 block assists
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Midway through the first, WT took a five point lead on their way to a 25-16 set win.
  • The Lady Buffs held the Mustangs to just seven kills in the opening set, but registered three service aces.
  • Back-to-back Mustang attack errors, on top of back-to-back kills from WT pushed the Lady Buffs to a 23-19.
  • WNMU got within two, but succumbed to the WT attack to drop set two.
  • The stats were tight in the final set, with WNMU a kill shy of WT, but dominating behind the service line with three service aces.
  • WT took set three on WNMU errors.
  • WNMU put the pressure on behind the service line with six service aces, as well as put up a wall in the front tallying five team blocks.
 
UP NEXT:
Mustang volleyball returns home for two non-conference matches against Dallas Baptist and Tarleton.
DBU enters Drag's Court on Halloween night, with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m. The Texans will then test their skills, Saturday at 1 p.m. against the Mustangs.
