Volleyball Prevails in Portales

Silver City, N.M. – The Mustangs got back to their winning ways Friday evening with a four set win over cross state rival Eastern New Mexico. The team hit .212, on 56 kills to ground the Greyhounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A kill from Deyzha Samuelu (Garden Grove, CA/Edison High School) gave way to a 18-15 lead in favor of WNMU forcing an ENMU timeout.
  • A 7-2 run would give the Mustangs the first set 25-18.
  • The Mustangs hit .312 as a team behind 16 kills in the opening set.
  • Back-to-back service aces from Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) gave the Mustangs a 7-1 lead early in set two.
  • The Greyhounds would cut into the lead, but a kill from Delaney Seitz (Hillsboro, OR/Century High School) gave way to a 2-0 lead in the match for the Mustangs.
  • Set three was tightly contested, but ultimately Eastern New Mexico avoided the sweep taking set three.
  • A block solo from Erin Moss (Kailua, HI/University Laboratory School) forced a Greyhound timeout, at 14-8.
  • ENMU rallied off five points to pull within one.
  • The teams traded points, before a kill from Erin Moss (Kailua, HI/University Laboratory School) ended the match.
