Three Mustangs Finish in Double-Digits in Loss to Rambelles

Silver City, NM – Falling just short two nights before, the Lady Mustangs entered Saturday's afternoon matchup with vengeance. Facing a top team in Angelo State, Western needed an all-around performance.

On their first possession Angelo would draw the foul getting on the board first. Back-to-back threes by Sara Lopez (El Paso, Texas/Horizon High School) and one from Ciara Fields (El Paso, TX/El Dorado) would give Western a 9-5 lead through the first three minutes four minutes of play. A steal and fast break by Angelo would tie the game at 11. At the timeout with 1:26 remaining the first quarter, Angelo would start to pull away taking a 22-15 lead. Shooting 7-17 from the field through the first quarter, the Mustangs cut into the Angelo lead trailing by seven at the start of the second.

Through the second quarter Angelo took advantage of every possession outscoring the Mustangs 13-7 going into the break with a 37-24 lead. At the half, Sara Lopez (El Paso, Texas/Horizon High School) led with 8 points, followed by Ciara Fields (El Paso, TX/El Dorado) with 5.

In a fast break, Angelo scored first coming out of the half despite a turnover on the previous possession. A steal by Cassandra Vickery (Tularosa, NM/Tularosa) led to layup, followed by a jumper from Paulina Rodriguez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Montverde Academy ) got the offense going. The Rambelles would answer from beyond the arc though, hitting 3-for-6 and 4-for-7 from the floor with four minutes remaining in the third.

After a slow start, Paulina Rodriguez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Montverde Academy ) started to find her groove hitting back-to-back three to cut the Angelo lead to single digits.

Trailing 52-44 going into the final quarter, Western outscored the Rambelles 20-15 in the third shooting 4-7 from deep and 7-15 from the floor.
