Women's Basketball Unable to Comeback Against Midwestern State

Wichita Falls, TX-- After a nail biting win on Thursday, the Lady Mustangs looked to stay undefeated on the road. In a battle of the Mustangs, Midwestern State prevailed outscoring Western 13-3 through the first seven minutes of the first quarter. With three minutes left in the first frame, the Mustang were able to cut into the lead trailing 13-22. 

Through the second, Western kept it close offensively but unable to cut into the lead Midwestern led 41-26 going into the half. 

Midwestern came out firing in the third, keeping Western in single digit scoring and unable to recover as time ran out. The Mustangs of Midwestern State outscored Western 19-11 in the final frame to take a 80-46 win. Western falls to 6-7 overall (2-4 LSC).

Ciara Fields (El Paso, TX/El Dorado) had another big game finishing with 16 points, shooting 5-of-14 (FG), 4-of-8 (3pt) and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line. Defensively, Fields had nine rebounds, one block and one steal. Sara Lopez (El Paso, Texas/Horizon High School) finished with nine points, four rebounds and four steals. 

As a team, Western shot 27.3 percent from the field, 28.6 percent from deep, and 80 percent from the foul line. Defensively, Western had 11 steals and four blocks on the night. 

The Lady Mustangs return next week to defend home court taking on Texas A&M- Kingsville and Angelo State.
