Canyon, Texas—The Western New Mexico volleyball team, traveled to Canyon, Texas for their second match of the weekend against the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs. WT would come out on top in straight sets, with the Mustangs winless on the weekend, dropping to 2-3 in conference play.
Erin Moss (Kailua, HI/University Laboratory School) led all hitters with nine kills on 22 attempts, without committing an error to finish the day hitting .420. Freshmen,
Caitlin Liebe (Santa Clarita, CA/Saugus High School) and
Maggie Roe (Boulder City, NV/Boulder City High School) stepped in, both contributing eight kills.
Gabi Lau (Kailua, HI/University Laboratory School) led the back row defensive efforts with 18 digs.
Delaney Seitz (Hillsboro, OR/Century High School) added two blocks to the four total blocks by the Mustangs.
The Mustangs committed 24 attack errors, finishing the match hitting .085 as a team.
The Lady Buffs were led by outside hitter, Taylor Kress with 15 kills. Selena Batiste dished out 24 assists, and Gia Petties had four of the nine total blocks by West Texas.
West Texas led in all categories of the match.
Volleyball will return home for three games, starting Monday (9/24) at 6 p.m. versus travel partner, University of Texas-Permian Basin. Games will continue on Friday (9/28), when the Mustangs take on Texas Women at 5 p.m. (MT) followed by Texas A&M - Commerce on Saturday (9/29) at 6 p.m.
