Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Mustangs Victorious Against Embry Riddle.

Silver City, N.M— After a tough loss on Friday, Women's Basketball set out to start the holiday break on a high note. The Lady Mustangs defeated the visiting Embry Riddle Eagles by a score of 63-53.
 
Western was hot out of the gates going on a 7-0 run early in the first quarter. Maintaining a 14-8 lead going into the second, the Mustangs aggressive defense led to five steals. On 11-27 shooting from the field, the Mustangs outscored the visitors 29-24 in the first half to maintain the lead going into the break.
 
Starting the second half, Western continued to separate themselves from their competition, holding them to single digit scoring in the third, while they scored 23 points of their own. The fourth quarter would test the Mustangs as the Eagles turned up their defensive efforts. Despite cutting into the lead, Western was able to separate themselves by 10 to run away with their fourth win of the season.
 
Sara Lopez (El Paso, Texas/Horizon High School) led the Lady Mustangs scoring 14 points. Cassandra Vickery (Tularosa, NM/Tularosa) and Taylor Allison (Little Elm, Texas/Denton High School) added 11 and 10 points respectively. Allison was 8-8 from the free throw line, while Vickery snagged four steals in the win.
 
The Lady Mustangs will take a break for the holiday, returning to Drag's Court on December 30th to face off against Sul Ross State for their last game of the year.  Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
