First Home Games for Women's Basketball Set for Friday and Sunday

Silver City, N.M—Western New Mexico Women's Basketball got back in the win column this past weekend, earning a decisive 61-41 win over UT- Permian Basin. They are now 1-1 in Lone Star Conference play, and 3-3 overall.

After being on the road since season began, the women finally return to Silver City to defend home court hosting Arizona Christian and Embry Riddle (AZ) in non-conference matchups before the holiday break.
Redshirt junior guard, Sara Lopez (El Paso, Texas/Horizon High School) came up big in the win against Permian Basin draining 16 points on 5-11 from the field, and 2-5 from the arc. Lopez also grabbed three assists and two steals. Ciara Fields (El Paso, TX/El Dorado), Paulina Rodriguez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Montverde Academy ) also finished in double-digits with 14 and 13 points respectively. Tatyanna McFarland (Riverside, California/Valley View High School) added 10 points, nine rebounds, one assist, one block and two steals. Western outscored UTPB in the final fram 22-8, holding the Falcons to single-digits in both the third and fourth quarters.
 
The Lady Mustangs host Arizona Christian first at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14th. The Firestorm are currently on a two-game winning streak after defeating Ottawa University 93-82 over the weekend. Senior, guard Courtney Christmas leads the team in almost all categories, averaging 23.5 points per game with a .484 field goal percentage. She also contributes defensively, tallying 31 blocks, 32 steals and six rebounds in 11 games played.
 
The Embry Riddle Eagles are currently riding a seven-game winning streak, after defeating Benedictine-Mesa 74-58. Juniors, Jazlyn Maletino, Melissa Pfeifer, and Jenna Knudsen each contribute to the Eagles game. Maletino leads the team in scoring averaging 11.3 points per game, while Pfeifer and Knudsen add to the defensive efforts with Pfeifer's 10.7 rebound average, and Knudsen tallying 26 steals in nine games played. Embry Riddle will be the second game of the weekend with tip-off set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16th.
