Men’s Basketball Hits the Road to take on Texas A&M- International

Silver City, N.M—The Western New Mexico Men's Basketball team will travel to Laredo, Texas to take on Heartland Conference member Texas A&M- International in a midweek match up.

The Dustdevils are currently 3-5 overall after going 1-1 at the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic. After dropping their first game of the tournament to Southeastern Oklahoma State, they defeated Talladega College, 72-64, to close out the weekend.

Senior, Xabier Gomez leads the Dust Devils scoring, averaging 16.7 points in seven games played. Damon Leach contributes defensively, tallying 44 rebounds in eight games played for an average of 5.5 per game.

The Mustangs enter the midweek match up 2-1 overall. After an impressive 2-0 start at the Conference Challenge, the men's first since 2006-07, they met up with New Mexico Highlands for the second time in less than a week. Unfortunately, the Mustangs could not fight off the Cowboys a second time, falling 70-67 for their first loss of the young season.

Senior Willie McCray (Clovis, NM/Clovis/Westwind Prep Academy) dropped 15 points in the loss, and is now only a few points away from reaching 1,000 in his career. Eddie Giron (Monterrey, Mexico/Harmony Science Academy) followed up with 13 points, while John Reese Woodson and Davis Wade (Jackson, MS/Will C Wood) rounded out the players in double-digits with 11 and 10 points respectively.
