Silver City, N.M -- The Western New Mexico football team welcomes #18 Midwestern State to Ben Altamirano Field on Saturday for their last home game of the season. In a "Battle of the Mustangs", Midwestern enters the gridiron 6-2 overall, 4-2 in conference play with both their losses coming by one point and to ranked opponents.
Quarterback Layton Rabb currently ranks fifth in NCAA Division II in passing efficiency, and leads the conference in passing touchdowns, passing yards per game and total offense per game.
Western looks to bounce back after last weekend's 37-34 loss to Texas A&M - Kingsville on the road. On a bright note,
DeAndre Williams (Tucson, AZ/Tucson Magnet) had stand out performance last weekend leading the Mustangs with 14 carries for 200 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. He brings his total on the year to 475 yard rushing, for an average of 59.4 yards per game.
Elijah Jones (Gilbert, AZ/Campo Verde) contributes ont he receiving end with 299 yards and three touchdowns on the season.
Errick Dorsey (North Fort Myers, FL/North Fort Myers) led the Mustangs defense with 13 tackles, followed by
Matthew Macon (Hesperia, CA/Hesperia) with 10 in the loss at Kingsville.
Roosevelt Calhoun (Reno, NV/Hug) however leads Western with 60 tackles (34 solo, 26 asst.) with 7.0 tackles for loss.
