Men's Basketball Looks to Continue Win Streak Against New Mexico Highlands

Silver City, N.M—Coming off a strong performance in Albuquerque, and their first 2-0 start since the 2006-07 season, the Men's Basketball team will look to continue their win streak as they welcome New Mexico Highlands to Drag's Court.

Not even a week since these teams last met, the Mustangs came back from a double-digit deficit to defeat the Cowboys 81-75 in the first game of this weekend's Conference Challenge. The Mustangs led going into the half, before a run by the Cowboys saw them take a 17-point lead. Cold shooting from Highlands and strong defense by Western gave way to a comeback and the victory.

Leston Gordon (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago/Tunapuna Government Secondary) had a double-double in the win with 18 points and 11 rebounds on 8-for-11 shooting. Willie McCray (Clovis, NM/Clovis/Westwind Prep Academy) and John-Reese Woodson were the other two Mustangs in double-digits with 17 and 11 points respectively.

Highlands was led by senior transfer, Gerad Davis who shot 13-20 from the field racking up 28 points, on top of eight rebounds and three steals. Teammate, Raquan Mitchell also finished in double figures with 16 points for the Cowboys.

Tip-off will be at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14.
