Errors Cost Volleyball Three-Set Loss

Mustangs Fall to Midwestern State

Wichita Falls, Texas -- Multiple attack errors led to the defeat of the Mustangs this evening, as they fell to the Mustangs of Midwestern State in straight sets (25-19, 25-22,25-18.) 

The Mustangs committed 30 attack errors to 32 kills in the loss to hit -.017 on the night. 

Set one was all Midwestern as they took an early 13-6 lead on back-to-back kills by Erin Richburg, followed by back-to-back MSU blocks. Western would pull within four, before Midwestern would run away with the set 25-19 on one of their nine total team blocks. 

Set two showed signs of promise for the Western Mustangs as they fought back from a 20-14 deficit late in the set to come within 1. The teams would trade points before a MSU kill finished the set, giving them a 2-0 lead. 

Attack errors by Western early on in set three, led to a 7-1 Midwestern lead. Tough serving, increased their lead to 13-2 and they never looked back taking the set and match 25-15. 

Bria Augustine (Bell Flower, CA/Mayfair High School) led Western with a double-double on the night, posting 12 kills and 11 digs. Hannah Tishlarich (Elk Grove, CA/Pleasant Grove High School) contributed two service aces, and a block. 

Sarah Campoli (Weatherford, TX/Azle High School) led the setting duties with 20, with Gabi Lau (Kailua, HI/University Laboratory School) contributing 14 digs. 

Western falls to 7-15 overall, 3-10 in conference play. They will look to redeem themselves tomorrow, as they take on the Aggies of Cameron University at 2 p.m. The Aggies beat UT- Permian Basin this evening 3-1.
