Chili Bowl to Stay in Portales

Mustangs Suffer 55-9 Loss to In-State Rival Eastern New Mexico

Portales, N.M—In the battle of East versus West, the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds came out on top in dominating fashion, taking home the Chili Bowl in a 55-9 win over the Western New Mexico Mustangs.
 
The Greyhounds would strike first in the first quarter on a two-yard rush by Tyler Perry.
 
Colin Grady would then get the Mustangs on the board, completing a 35-yard field goal.
 
Just before the end of the quarter, Wyatt Strand rushed 18-yards to the end zone putting the Greyhounds up 14-3. Eastern found the end zone twice more in the second quarter, increasing their lead to 28-3 going into the break.
 
Six plays-67 yards, Blayne Armstrong (Ozark, MO/Marshfield) connected with Elijah Jones (Gilbert, AZ/Campo Verde) on a 16 yard pass to give the Mustangs their only touchdown of the game.
 
Armstrong finished the game, 19-of-41 with 290 yards, one touchdown and one interception with a long of 42.
 
Kourde Roberts (North Las Vegas, NV/Legacy) led the Mustangs with seven receptions for 81 yards, followed by Elijah Jones (Gilbert, AZ/Campo Verde) with four receptions for 75 yards and one touchdown.
 
Roosevelt Calhoun (Reno, NV/Hug) led the defensive efforts with 16 tackles, 8 of which were solo.
 
Western will return home to take on the defending National Champions, Texas A&M- Commerce next weekend, Oct. 20th at Ben Altamirano Field. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. (MST)
