Women’s Tennis Runs into Tough Matchup against Division I New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – It was a tough matchup for the Western New Mexico University women's tennis team on Wednesday against Division I New Mexico State as the Aggies claimed the 7-0 victory.

With doubles only counting as one point in Division I, NMSU (8-11) won all three matches for the early 1-0 advantage. WNMU (3-13) Freshmen Emma Siboni (Boulogne-Billancourt, France/Lycée La Fontaine)/Nadia Justiniano (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Santa Cruz International School) came the closest at No. 3 tallying three games before a 6-3 setback. Seniors Annely Heinze (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Techologico de Monterrey)/Gemma Goodland (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Maribyrnong College Sports Academy) pulled out two games before a 6-2 loss at the top flight, while redshirt junior Tiffany Newell (Las Vegas, NV/Silverado )/junior Jeanne Kolb (La Couroone, France/Lycée de l'Image et du Son ) fell at No. 2, 6-0.

In singles, Heinze won four games in her match at No. 2, coming close in the first set before falling 6-3, 6-1. Goodland also won four games at No. 3 claiming two games in each set before a 6-2, 6-2 setback. Siboni grabbed three games at No. 5, 6-1, 6-2. Newell at the top flight and Kolb at No. 4 fell by the same scores of 6-1, 6-1, while Justiniano ran into a tough match at No. 6 falling 6-1, 6-0.

The match at NMSU started a week-long road swing for the Lady Mustangs as they will play a pair of Lone Star Conference matches starting on Friday against Texas A&M-Kingsville and then on Saturday against Tarleton State.
