Softball to Host Cameron for Senior Weekend

SILVER CITY, N.M. – It will be senior weekend this week for the Western New Mexico University softball team when they host Cameron this Friday and Saturday. The Lady Mustangs will honor three seniors Linzy Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad), Lacy Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) and Domi Shone (Gold Canyon, AZ/Mesquite) on Saturday.

Below is a recap of the careers up until this point for each senior.

Linzy Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) has played alongside her twin sister Lacy all four seasons. So far this year Linzy has played in all 42 games, tallying a .302 batting average, 38 hits, 25 runs, four doubles, two triples, a home run, 13 RBI and seven steals. She leads the team in runs scored, triples and steals. She has six multi-hit games and has the highest hitting streak on the team this season of 13 games. Linzy went a perfect 3-3 against Hawaii Hilo and added a two RBI game with three hits against Central Washington. For her career she has played in 181 games, while tallying 150 hits, 118 runs, 24 doubles, seven home runs and 58 RBI.

WNMU (2016): She was named to the Preseason All-RMAC Team and was named to the All-RMAC Academic honor roll team for her work in the classroom. Granger was a consistent force in the Lady Mustang lineup as a junior. She posted a .318 batting average, three home runs, eight doubles, 24 RBI, 19 walks, a stolen base and 35 runs scored while starting in all 55 games. She finished third on the team in both batting average and doubles, while coming in second with 54 hits. Granger tallied two, three-hit games against Adams State and CSU-Pueblo, she had 16 multi-hit games, drove in a high in RBI with 4 against CSU-Pueblo and held an over .300 batting average over the final month of the season. Granger was second on the team in multi-hit games and tied for third in multi-RBI games with five and at one point during the season carried an eight-game hitting streak. She also participated in the NCAA Leadership Forum in Baltimore during the fall of 2016.

WNMU (2015): Granger had a big season in her sophomore year posting a .329 batting average, along with 57 hits, 12 doubles, five triples, three home runs, 21 RBI and five stolen bases in starting all 53 games. She led the team in triples and was fourth in batting average. She had a season-high in hits with three coming against Colorado Mines and MSU Denver. She had a high in RBI with two against MidAmerica Nazarene, Oklahoma Panhandle State and New Mexico Highlands. 

WNMU (2014): In her first season with the Lady Mustangs she played in 31 games, starting one. She recorded a hit, 12 runs scored and had two putouts and an assist on defense. Of her 12 runs scored, all were posted in 12 different games. 

High School (Career): Granger played at Carlsbad where the team won the state championship in 2010. She was named to the All-State Second-Team in 2012 and as a senior in 2013 was named All-State First-Team and All-District First-Team playing primarily second base.

She is the twin sister of teammate Lacy Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) and cousin to former Lady Mustang MaryJo Ganger. 

Lacy Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) has played alongside her twin sister Linzy all four seasons. So far this year Lacy has played all 42 games, tallying a .303 batting average, 37 hits, nine doubles, two home runs, 21 RBI and 13 runs scored. She is tied for the team lead in home runs while leading the way in RBI and is second in doubles. She is tied for the team lead in multi-hit games with nine and leads the team in multi-RBI games with six. At one point this season she had an eight game hitting streak. For her career she has played in 163 games, while tallying 107 hits, 56 runs, 19 doubles, four home runs and 58 RBI.

WNMU (2016): Granger was in the lineup in all but one game her junior year, starting 54 games for the Lady Mustangs. She compiled a .269 batting average, 45 hits, a home run, 20 RBI, seven doubles, 24 runs scored, 11 walks and three steals. Granger went off for a four-hit game against Oklahoma Panhandle as she went 4-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in that game. She posted a three-RBI game versus Fort Lewis and finished third on the team with 12 multi-hit games and was fifth in multi-RBI games with four. She tallied a four-game hitting streak during the season.

WNMU (2015): Granger played in 36 games, starting 18 as a sophomore. She collected 15 hits, 11 runs scored, a double, two triples, a home run and seven RBI. She also had a stolen base. She had a season-high two RBI against MidAmerica Nazarene and Colorado Mesa.

WNMU (2014): Played in 31 games, starting five. She recorded 10 hits, eight runs scored, two doubles and 10 RBI. Granger had a season-high two hits twice against Fort Lewis and Adams State, posted a three RBI game against Adams State.

High School (Career): Granger was named to the New Mexico Activities Association District 4/5A First-Team Infield for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 season. She was named to the 2012 All-State First-Team Infield Athletic Award. She also helped the team to the 2011 and 2012 Ultimate Dugout State Championship, and she participated in the North/South Class 4/5A State Softball Series in 2013. Team won the 2010 New Mexico Sports Authorities State Championship.

She is the twin sister of teammate Linzy Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) and cousin to former Lady Mustang MaryJo Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad).

Shone has been a staple in the circle for the Lady Mustangs, tossing over 100 innings in each season. This season she has seen action in 25 games, starting 17 and logging 102 innings. She has four complete games and 42 strikeouts. Shone tossed a strong six inning game against Hawaii Hilo in which she allowed just one unearned run. She also had a good outing against one of the top teams in the nation in Angelo State when she limited the Rambelles to just three earned runs in pitching all seven innings. For her career she has pitched in 132 games logging 620 innings, 34 wins, 278 strikeouts and 48 complete games.

WNMU (2016): Shone returned strong form injury as she led the Lady Mustangs in the circle in pretty much every category including ERA (3.88), wins (12), appearances (38), games started (26), complete games (16), shutouts (3), saves (1), innings pitched (176.2) and strikeouts (90). She tossed a high of eight innings against Chadron State in which she allowed just one earned run and came away with the 2-1 victory. Her shutouts came against Colorado Mines, New Mexico Highlands and CSU-Pueblo, as the wins against Colorado Mines and CSU-Pueblo she went seven innings. She allowed one hit over five innings of work in the win over CSU-Pueblo, she added four strikeouts as well. Shone piled up eight strikeouts against New Mexico Highlands. She had 10 appearances in which she didn't allow a walk.

WNMU (2015): She missed the season due to injury and had a medical redshirt.

WNMU (2014): Shone tossed 176.1 innings and recorded an 11-15 record in the circle for the Lady Mustangs in 2014. She led the team in almost every category including ERA (5.08), wins, appearances (37), starts (26), complete games (16), shutouts (3), innings pitched, and strikeouts (86). She tossed seven innings 11 different times which included shutouts against New Mexico Highlands, CSU-Pueblo, and Colorado Mines. Shone even added a save against Chadron State where she logged three innings and allowed just one earned run. Shone collected a high in strikeouts with eight against Abilene Christian.

WNMU (2013): Became the top pitcher in the circle for the Mustangs as a true freshman. Shone pitched in 32 games, starting 20 as she logged 165 innings, collecting 11 wins and a 3.44 ERA. She posted 60 strikeouts to just 43 walks and had 12 complete games. At the plate she had nine hits for a .321 batting average including a home run and three RBI. She tossed five games in which she allowed no earned runs, with two lasting at least six innings and one five inning shutout against New Mexico Highlands.

High School (Career): Collected many awards including Second-Team All-Region Pitcher and MVP in 2009. Was a First-Team All-Region and MVP in 2011, while also earning All-Gilbert and Coach's Award in 2012. She played for the Arizona Storm Gold-Smith club team.

Cameron is third in the Lone Star Conference standings with a 17-6 conference mark. They have an overall record of 29-15. They lost last time out against West Texas A&M as they won the first game, but then fell in a doubleheader on Saturday.

WNMU and Cameron will play a single game Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
