Three Seniors to be Honored as Lady Mustangs Finish Season Against Javelinas, Rambelles

SILVER CITY, N.M. – Seniors Jayla Brown (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista ), Kenzie Rinehart (Deming, NM/Deming ) and Jordan Gutierrez (Albuquerque, NM/Valley ) will conclude their Lady Mustang careers this week as the Western New Mexico University women's basketball team faces Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State to wrap-up the season.

Below is information on the three seniors and their careers up to this point entering the game this Thursday.

Brown has played in 19 games this season compiling 101 points, 47 rebounds, 39 field goals, 18 three-pointers, 15 assists and 14 steals. She went for a high in points with 17 against Eastern New Mexico and also added a 15-point game this past weekend versus Midwestern State. Brown pulled down eight rebounds against Texas A&M-Kingsville and dished out five assists against Texas A&M-Commerce. For her two-year career at WNMU she played in 45 games, made 53 field goals, 21 three-pointers, 76 rebounds, 26 assists and 22 steals.
 
WNMU (2015-16): Brown played in 26 games tallying 41 points, eight steals, 11 assists, 29 rebounds, 10 free throws, three three-pointers and 14 field goals. She went for a season-high six points against Colorado Mines. Brown pulled down a high in rebounds with four twice versus Eastern New Mexico and Western State.

PCC: Brown played at Pima Community College the past two season and averaged nearly five points per game in her first season, she came back to post 7.2 points and 3.1 rebounds to help lead the team to a 17-14 record her sophomore season.

Rinehart has played in every game this season, tallying 61 points, 52 rebounds, 27 assists, two blocks, 17 steals and 25 field goals made. She tallied a high in points with 12 against Fort Lewis and grabbed five rebounds against Cameron. For her career she played in 69  games,  made 41 field goals, nine three-pointers, 89 rebounds, 54 assists and 32 steals.
 
WNMU (2015-16): Rinehart earned All-RMAC Academic First-Team accolades. She saw action in 24 games, compiling 27 points, six steals, a block, 13 assists, 19 rebounds, eight free throws, three three-pointers and eight field goals. She scored a season-high five points twice against Black Hills State and Chadron State.

WNMU (2014-15): Rinehart saw action in four games, logging seven minutes per contest. She tallied three points, six rebounds, an assists and two steals. She tallied a season-high 10 minutes against University of the Southwest and scored a season-high two points against Colorado Christian.

WNMU (2013-14): Rinehart played in 16 games as a true freshman. She scored 15 points, seven steals, two blocks, 13 assists, 12 rebounds, seven field goals in 112 minutes. Scored a high of six points against Sul Ross State.

High School: Played at Deming where she was a part of the Lady Wildcats team that collected the District 3-4A Championship this season. She averaged 14 points per game this season. She was named to the First-Team All-District Team sophomore to senior seasons and was selected to play in the New Mexico North-South All-Star game. Posted a season-high 33 against Alamogordo and also had two other games where she scored at least 20 points against Silver (22) and Chaparral (22). She shot well from the field connecting on 40 percent of all of her field goals attempted.
 
Gutierrez enters this week tied for the Lone Star Conference lead in scoring averaging 18.5 points per game. She has three of the top-six highest scoring games in the conference this season, including a career-high 36 points she scored against UT Permian Basin. Gutierrez added a 32-point game against Tarleton State and another 32-point game last time out versus Midwestern State.  She has played all 40 minutes in the last 12 games and leads the conference in minutes played. She also ranks third in free throw percentage, fifth in assists, eight in assist-to-turnover ratio and seventh in steals. She has made 150 field goals, 44 three-pointers, along with 99 rebounds, 92 assists, three blocks and 45 steals in starting every game. For her career she played in 108 games, made 314 field goals, made 121 three-pointers, brought down 275 rebounds, dished out 197 assists and tallied 128 steals.
 
WNMU (2015-16): Gutierrez was tabbed to the All-RMAC honorable mention team, along with landing on the All-RMAC Academic squad. She led the team in scoring averaging 9.9 points per game, three-pointers made (49) and three-point percentage (36.6). Gutierrez played in all 28 games, starting 22. She made 89 field goals and 50 free throws, while pulling down 83 rebounds, 52 assists, six blocks and 47 steals. She posted a season-high 29 points against CSU-Pueblo in which she connected on seven three-pointers. She did one better in the game versus UC-Colorado Springs making eight three-pointers and tallying 28 points. Gutierrez posted double-digits in scoring 13 times. She dished out a season-high seven assists against New Mexico Highlands and had four steals twice against South Dakota Mines and Black Hills State.

WNMU (2014-15): Gutierrez played in all 27 games during her sophomore season, logging 13.7 minutes per game. She averaged 3.7 points and 1.1 rebounds while also tallying 19 steals, 19 assists and 19 three-pointers made. She made a high in three-pointers of three twice against University of the Southwest and Colorado Mines. Posted a season-high 11 points against Colorado Mines.

WNMU (2013-14): Gutierrez played in all 28 games as a true freshman at the point guard position. She averaged 4.1 points, 13.1 minutes, and 2.2 rebounds per game. She also tallied 17 steals, a block, 34 assists and 40 field goals. She scored a high in points of 17 at home against New Mexico Highlands. Pulled down six rebounds vs. Sul Ross State.

High School: Led team to a 20-6 record as a senior at Valley High where the team won the District Championship and made it to the 5A State Tournament. She averaged 16.6 points per game, to go along with four assists. She received many accolades during her time at Valley, including being All-District from 2011-2013, All-Metro in 2012 and 2013 All-State District Player of the Year, while participating in the North/South All-Star in 2013.
 
The Lady Mustangs are 4-21 overall and 0-18 in the Lone Star Conference and will open the week this Thursday against Texas A&M-Kingsville at 5:30 p.m. Earlier this year, the Javelinas claimed the 71-62 victory back on Jan. 21.
Gutierrez leads the team in scoring at 18.5 points per game, while junior Jade Botelho (Honolulu, HI/Iolani ) adds 11.9. Sophomore Megan Looney (Phoenix, AZ/Apache Junction ) grabs down a team-best 7.0 rebounds. The Lady Mustangs average 60.3 points and allow 76.4, while they make 34 percent from the field and allow 44 percent.

The Javelinas are 12-12 overall and 7-11 in the conference, currently in eighth and have clinched a spot in the conference tournament. They edged UT Permian Basin last time out, 63-59 and won their most recent road game at Texas A&M-Commerce on Feb. 11, 67-65.

Texas A&M-Kingsville averages 61.2 points and allows 61.8, they make 37 percent from the field and allow 37 percent. Kaylin Roher leads the team at 10.8 points per game, while Meesha Wade adds 9.0. Kaylee Kana leads the team in rebounding at 7.3 per game.

To close the week, WNMU will have senior day against #19/#24 Angelo State at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The three seniors, Brown, Rinehart and Gutierrez will all be honored between games. The Rambelles are second in the conference right now with a 20-4 overall record and 14-4 mark in the conference. Last time out they won both games at home against West Texas A&M (68-66) and UT Permian Basin (88-55). During their last road trip they fell to both Texas A&M-Commerce (83-80) and Tarleton State (79-77).

Angelo State averages 80.3 points per game and allow 66.1, they make 45 percent from the field and allow 39 percent. Taylor Dorsey leads the way averaging 17.2 points, while Jasmine Prophet adds 14.0. Prophet leads the team at 7.0 rebounds per contest. Angelo State, then ranked #11 back on Jan. 19, defeated the Lady Mustangs 105-52.
