Range to be Honored on Senior Day as Mustangs Wrap-up Season Against Texas A&M-Kingsville, Angelo State

SILVER CITY, N.M. – Senior Emery Range (Grand Rapids, MI/Willow Canyon) will be the only senior honored for the Western New Mexico University men's basketball team when they face Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State to conclude the 2016-17 season.

Range transferred in from Glendale CC and he finishes his two-year career at WNMU this weekend. Below is a recap of his career heading into this week's games.

WNMU (2016-17): Range has had a strong final season for the Mustangs as he has started every game this season tallying 170 points, 121 rebounds, 60 field goals, 17 three-pointers, 20 assists and 10 steals. He went for a high in points with 15 against N.M. Highlands. He has eight games this season he has scored at least 10 points. He grabbed a high in rebounds with 13 versus Benedictine-Mesa and went for a double-double against Oklahoma Panhandle with 10 points and 12 rebounds. He tallied three steals against N.M. Highlands. For his two-year career at WNMU he played in 51 games, made 150 field goals, 38 three-pointers, 252 rebounds, 46 assists and 24 steals.

WNMU (2015-16): Range had a strong first season with the Mustangs as he averaged 9.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, along with 26 assists, a block, 14 steals, 90 field goals, 21 three-pointers and 65 free throws. He went for a season-high 21 points twice against CSU-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands. He scored double-figures in 14 games. He had a pair of double-doubles against Oklahoma Panhandle when he scored 11 points and brought down 11 rebounds and then the next game against Northern New Mexico in which he had 18 points and 11 rebounds. He tallied three steals three times against Oklahoma Panhandle, Benedictine-Mesa and Adams State. He started all 27 games.

GCC: Range played in 30 games as a sophomore for Glendale Community College where he averaged 11.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He also connected on 36 percent field goals and 34 three-pointers per contest. He posted a season-high 28 points against Tohono O'odham CC and went for 20 or more points in four other games. He connected on a season-high 11 field goals against Midland College.
 
WNMU enters the final two games of the season 2-22 overall and 0-16 in the Lone Star Conference. Sophomore Jordan Enriquez (El Paso, TX/Bel Air ) leads the team in scoring at 13.0 points per game, while sophomore Willie McCray (Clovis, NM/Clovis/Westwind Prep Academy ) adds 11.6. Junior Latrell Spivey (Phoenix, AZ/Westview) leads the team in rebounding at 9.4 per game and adds 9.1 points. The Mustangs average 64.7 points and allow 83.6, while making 36 percent from the field and allow 45 percent.
 
First up on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. will be a matchup with Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Javelinas are 15-10 overall and 8-8 in the conference, currently in sixth place and are in the conference tournament. They played an epic three overtime game this past Saturday in which they fell to UT Permian Basin 87-81. They won the game before that against West Texas A&M 76-59. During their last road trip they fell to Texas A&M-Commerce 77-59 and to Tarleton State 78-41.
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville claimed a 77-58 win back on Jan. 21 against the Mustangs. They average 68.7 points per game and allow 66.8, they make 40 percent from the field and allow 40 percent. Duan Wright leads the team at 12.4 points per game, followed by Trey Sumpter's 10.3. Sumpter leads the team in rebounding at 5.1 per game.
 
To close the week, WNMU will go against Angelo State on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Rams are 14-10 overall and 6-10 in the conference, currently tied for the eighth and final tournament spot. Angelo State has lost three straight against Tarleton State (76-67), UT Permian Basin (93-90) and this past Saturday against West Texas A&M (90-81). Prior to their recent slide their defeated Texas A&M-Commerce (88-74) and Midwestern State (74-67).
 
They average 80.1 points and allow 74.5, while making 47 percent and allowing 39 percent. Quay King leads the team in scoring at 20.1 per game, while Prince Foster adds 11.4 points and DeVonte' Pratt at 10.8 per game. They have been without second-leading scorer Lorenzo Dillard who averages 13.9 per game. Thomas Tshikaya grabs down a team-high 8.3 rebounds. In the earlier meeting back on Jan. 19 the Rams took the 97-61 victory.
